Petone Sportsville Incorporated is one of three Sportsville projects that are a new breed of sports organisation in the Hutt Valley. It links all affiliated member sports clubs under one comprehensive banner and aims to build a stronger community around the sports hub.
Responsibility and duties Petone Sportsville is governed by a board of directors and the constitution states that the representation will be as follows:
•Two (2) elected representatives – to represent the interests of all sports clubs
•Five (5) appointed representatives – appointed according to expertise and experience
The Board of Directors is the legal authority for Petone Sportsville Incorporated. As a member of the board, a director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organisation. All Board Member positions are voluntary. Paid staff will work with volunteers to deliver sport programmes and services under the direction of the board. Board members are also responsible to the committees of each of the clubs, as they have an obligation to consider the various needs of stakeholders of the organisation.
The major expectations of board members are to:
•Develop Petone Sportsville for the betterment of its member clubs and the local community as a whole
•Be fully involved in the development of strategic and financial plans to support and lead the organisation
•Regularly attend board meetings and important related meetings
•Make serious commitment to participate actively in the work of the board
•Stay informed about committee matters, prepare themselves well for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports.
•Be an active participant in the board’s evaluation and planning efforts
•Participate in fund raising for the organisation
•Commit to maintaining the health and cultures of the member clubs and develop pride in the organisation
IDEAL APPLICANT DESCRIPTION
The appointed Board members represent the interests of all founding members and the community. It is desirable that applicants for this role have demonstrated skills, experience and networks in one or more of the following areas:
•Volunteer Board
•Sports governance and administration
•Fundraising
•Local government knowledge
•Legal expertise
