Looking for a club? We’ve got information for our eight Sportsville clubs, including season, membership and contact details.

A quick introduction

Petone Sportsville was formed in 2011 as the result of a partnership project led by Hutt City Council and supported by Sport NZ, Sport Wellington, NZ Community Trust and Pelorus Trust. We want to maximise the return on the investment in the Petone sporting community by making sure  benefits can be shared by multiple sporting clubs and community groups.

Our Sportsville has eight member clubs based around North Park in Petone. They are:

  • Petone Tennis Club
  • Petone Swimming Club
  • Hutt Valley GymSports
  • Petone Hockey Club
  • Petone Riverside Cricket
  • Hutt Valley Harriers and Athletic Club
  • Petone Central Bowling Club
  • Petone Rugby Football Club

Petone Sportsville’s vision is “Improving the community’s health and wellbeing through sport”. To achieve this, we’ve identified strategic goals focusing on the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Facilities development
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Knowledge and resource sharing
  • Sporting opportunities
  • Financial sustainability
  • Profiling Petone as a sporting destination
  • Brand awareness
  • Advocacy for members

Why Sportsvilles?

The cost of running clubs and managing buildings is constantly increasing. Clubs throughout New Zealand are struggling with a lack of funding, decreasing membership and fewer volunteers. Sportsville provides us with a strong concept to help us protect and foster our clubs through sports partnerships.

The purpose of the Sportsville projects are to create sports communities that make it easier for clubs to attract new members, offer new programmes and control operational costs by pooling resources.

The focus is on collaboration, not amalgamation. Each club maintains it sovereignty, history and identity, now within a strong and supportive network.

There now several Sportsville projects at various stages around the Wellington region and around New Zealand.
